E Prajanmer Shipira Sunanda Das [1962 - ] Stereotyping is one of the general tendencies that pioneers or numerically minorities have to counter in any field. To her credit Suananda Dsa has been successful in moving beyond the danger of being labeled as “the woman sculptor” in spite of being a pioneer – as the female artist in the field of sculpture. Sunanada’s favourite medium is bronze. She prefers contextualizing philosophical and/or spirituality within the central physical locus of force in her works. Before creating the final work she prefers making two-dimensional drafts in pen, paper and pencil. “Shakti” and “Durga” are two instances. At present she is teaches in the famous Sri Sikhhayatan Art College in Shantiniketan. Shealso has the prestigious National Scholarship to her credit.
